# Approaching Port of Rotterdam with the largest vessel ever built

The 8th of January 2015 was a special day for AD Navigation: Pioneering Spirit the largest vessel ever built arrived in the Port of Rotterdam.

Pioneering Spirit is on its maiden voyage and will stay in Rotterdam for a period of time to finalise vessel installation work. The Pioneering Spirit (formerly known as Pieter Schelte) is 382m long, with a width of 124 meter. The vessel will be used for decommissioning of platforms and for pipe lay operations.

The Dutch Pilots successfully manoeuvred the vessel into the port to its final destination. Thanks to the ultra-precise ADX XR Portable Pilot Unit, the job was done at the highest level of safety and efficiency.
